Service Day
Each year in the spring, the  students  at Holy Spirit Middle and High and their teachers have an opportunity to put their learning about social justice and Catholic Social Teachings into practice. As Christians, Jesus commissioned each of us through St. Peter to, "feed his sheep." Students are invited to consider what kind of service project they may be interested in, and then are asked to choose from a number of local and statewide organizations to bring the message of the Good News out into the community. Some of the organizations that the students have visited in the past include:
  • Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind
  • Caring Days
  • Catholic Social Services
  • Community Soup Bowl
  • Eagles Wings
  • Greene County Nursing Home
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Head Start - Greene County
  • McGraw Center
  • Metro Animal Shelter
  • RISE
  • Temporary Emergency Services

After spending half a day working with and for the people served by the organizations, the students return to school to reflect and share about their experiences.

Many of our school parents join us for this wonderful day. So, if you are ever interested in joining us, or have another suggested placement for future Service Days; please feel free to contact Sr. Ellen, fcJ the school's Campus Ministry office.

The life of Jesus

is a life for others.

It is a life of service.
